The interplay between the son and the Japanese girl was totally unnecessary and added nothing to what was a critical battle of WWII. Also, I thought the son behaved like a jerk.

Still one of the best and most historically accurate in comparison to all the reading on the events in the history books long ago. Some of the actual war videos were out of sequence of the time of the war as Hellcats and Helldivers came later and as mentioned in other reviews, it is “Hollywoodized” but not as much as the new movie from the looks of it. Still remember seeing this movie first run in the theater with “Sensurround” and being in total awe!

he's great in this film, he was also in The Longest Day as Teddy JR. Midway like Tora! Tora! Tora! is told between the American and Japanese viewpoints, this was the battle that swung the Pacific front to our favor. Buy this movie

Great movie except for the injection of a lame soap opera story involving members of the fictional Garth family. Part of Hollywood’s “more money than brains” strategy to broaden the movie’s appeal. If you fast forward through most of the scenes with Charlton Heston it really is a great, historically important film. BTW, when is iTunes going to enable Sensurround?

Did not enjoy this film as much as others concerning the war in the Pacific like Tora! Tora! Tora! and The Flying Leathernecks. Too much Hollywood with too many big names. Also, the Japanese officers should have spoken their language with English subtitles to make it more authentic. Just an okay film.

But I did notice that in the very last scene, when the aircraft carrier is back in port. Some of the 'civilians' waiting on the pier are wearing 1970's clothes...The things you see in old movies in HD.....

This is a grand epic accurately depicting the events that turned the corner or changed the tide of WWII’s Pacific Theater struggle. Having graduated from the US Army’s War College, I studied these battles in detail. This movie not only provides the human aspects of the war, but it depicts real events and major game-changers which ultimately shaped the war’s outcome. I recommend that it be watched, especially by younger audiences who have minimal exposure to real life.
  • One of the BEST WWII movies made!
