This adaptation is quite strange. Here Rochester is a bit flirty and predatory. Jayne is naive and child like. Disturbing.

This movie is so beautiful in every way. The acting on behalf of Mia Wasikowksa is phenomenal. She embodies Jane in every sense: a girl who, despite her difficult childhood and unfortunate circumstances, manages to become free simply by following her inner beliefs, morals, and values. She maintains throughout her life a firm belief in herself and her worth; no one can tell her who she is for she alone knows not only who she is but who she has become on her journey through life. Her story is a testament to the strength of the human spirit and how it is able to overcome seemingly insurmountable hardship. I highly recommend this movie and therefore give it 5 stars!

After reading the book, I thought, "well, I should watch the movie!" And ugh. I didn't think the actors caught the true essence of the characters at all. Jane wasn't spirited and smart, instead she was just lifeless. At least the actress was about the same age. Mr. Rochester was good-looking, when he wasn't supposed to be. And he said the lines like he was just reading off a script. The drama of the book was scaled way down to a point where stuff happened and you were kind of confused and you didn't care. There was almost no build up at all to parts that were supposed to be plot twists. Sad violins in the background made you feel like you were watching a documentary on the moors of the UK that was the only thing on TV and you are trying to pass the time before Master Chef starts. They didn't add anything to the emotions of scenes and were generic. Costumes were beautiful, although not historically accurate to the book and times. I wished they'd play up the spookiness of the empty hills, but instead there were about three two second shots. I was excited about this movie, and grew to be disappointed. I only recommend because of the cool architecture and the feeling that you're there.

Loved this version! The intensity between the two came across so well! I just wish there had been more development of the relationship. It seemed as though they met, spent thirty minutes together with him barking at her and from that alone a romance blossomed to the point where they wanted to marry. There was so much more than that.
