... unleashing the crack epidemic of the 80s turning inner cities and parts of suburbs into ghost towns complete with zombies Yes this really happened. Good to see the beginnings of this govt- wrought crime drama tragedy. Truth is stranger than fiction! Good acting and production values! Of course no good entertainment story is without contrived elements to keep the action moving. At least its based on truth.

One of the best shows that I've seen in years very well done and very classy even though it's about the crack cocaine epidemic in the 80s I grew up in Los Angeles at this time reminds me of being a kid living in south-central/Inglewood unfortunately we all know after crack came so did the crack gang wars of the early 80s but I do love the show

Many don’t know the history of crack and how it was unleashed on black communities as a weapon and a tremendous cash making enterprise. As this series shows, there was a political motive, too—Reagan approved its use as a way to fund Iran-Contra rebels. As Franklin’s uncle tries to warn him—this drug carries too heavy a price to deal with. And we immediately see how right his uncle is. As soon as Franklin decides to sell coke instead of grass as a way to make money, his life is threatened
repeatedly. Almost everywhere he goes. The ambience of his surroundings change, even at home. This happens, too, to the CIA officer who partners with the Nicaraguan soldier who needs money for the soldiers in the jungle. That officer is replacing a former officer who died on top of a hot tub full of coke. The warning signs are there, for black and white alike. This drug is lethal and it will change any life that comes into contact with it. Although the 1st episode is a little slow, it’s full of story. You’d expect a series about coke to be faster paced. And 100 points for the film poster art. That alone drew me in.
