Description

An unflinching look at the legendary reporter, who interrogated the 20th century’s biggest figures in his over fifty years on air, and his aggressive reporting style and showmanship that redefined what America came to expect from broadcasters. Unearthing decades of never-before-seen footage from the 60 Minutes vault, the film explores what drove and plagued Wallace, whose storied career was entwined with the evolution of journalism itself.

  • A window into the mind of a great

"Mike Wallace is Here" opens a window into the mind of a journalistic stalwart. Without narration, the film lets Wallace's interviews and exchanges stand on their own. At times, they are juxtaposed with the same questions pointed at Wallace himself. In those moments, his humanity shines through. The film harkens to a time when television networks and major newspapers commanded the attention of and informed the nation - long before social media opened the cesspool of ignorance and tribalism that afflicts the country today. Perhaps that pit can soon be filled in by someone of Wallace's ilk. For if we don't have frank conversations with those in power, how can we the people hold them accountable?

I don't know why Mike Wallace or anyone else would be happy or proud of helping to make the press and journalism the miserable mess it is today. It focuses on negativity and most of the people that watch it become negative. People think the world is going to pieces and things are worse than they've ever been when in reality the world is much better than it has ever been. In "the good ole days" they never had a Mike Wallace telling them how bad everything was. I wonder how long Mr. Wallace would have made it reporting on HenryVlll? When the world really was in bad shape.
