Description

As Patty Hewes (Glenn Close) prepares for a class action suit against a multinational pharmaceutical company, Ellen Parsons (Rose Byrne) returns to Hewes and Associates to pursue her own lawsuit against military contractor High Star Security and its powerful CEO, Howard Erickson (guest star John Goodman). Turning to an ex-employee for information about a secret High Star mission gone awry in Afghanistan plunges Ellen into a side of the war on terror that’s rife with torture and deceit. As Ellen seeks her former mentor’s help in navigating the shadowy world of the CIA, Patty faces problems of her own when her granddaughter is struck by a mysterious illness and her estranged son reemerges to challenge her for custody of the girl. As Patty uses her own lawsuit to settle an old score with Erickson, Ellen’s case leaves the futures of an Afghan boy and his CIA operative father hanging in the balance.

Don't get me wrong, Damages is a GREAT show, but this season was not much more than 'meh'. the most engaging character and / or storyline was the dog's. Also find Chris pretty unlikable (sorry). I never even bothered to watch the last few episodes because I didn't care. They definitely dropped the ball. At least season 5 brought back its A-game - along with Chris. darn.

Let me first say I'm a huge fan of this show. First three seasons were excellent, but season 4 could easily be mistaken for a comedy. it must be the script because the show is packed with excellent actors, but the story is ridiculous and unbelievable. Every time they show a scene from "Afghanistan" or someone who is supposed to be from there, we hear a loud sitar being plucked. I mean, it's so ridiculous it almost can't be unintentional. Thank God for Glenn Close is all I can say because this season would be COMPLETELY unwatchable without her. Rose Byrne's character seems like she took one too many valium in most of her scenes. She seems completely apathetic and very pleased with herself. Chris Messina is hot, so there's that. John Goodman, whom I also adore, is also horrible in this. Dylan Baker, who is also great in most of the projects he takes part in, is perfect for the weasely character he portrays, but his southern accent is also hilarious. Both Goodman and Baker must have been told to "really ham it up". Somebody really dropped the ball on this one.

Some of the best television out there. Glenn Close is brilliant as the ruthless Patty Hewes, and Rose Byrne is highly believable as the accomplished, Ellen Parsons. Buy all 4 seasons, you won't be disappointed.
